High Priest Jucleas told you to meet with some of the scholars in the Library of Sages so you could take a small series of tests. You must first meet Gromoros.

Quest Information[]

Objectives[]

Basic Reward[]

Walkthrough[]

Talk with Jucleas to obtain this quest. Now travel to the Library of the Sages and speak with Gromoros and take the quiz. Next talk with Nestor in the library and take his quiz. Talk with Xenophon and answer his questions. Finally once you have obtained all 3 certificates talk with Fuchsia, also located in the library and receive your reward.

Dialogue[]

Initial Dialogue[]

Jucleas
"Now for the second test...
Your body is prepared for the Abyss, but is your mind?"
1 "I'm ready to learn."
"Excellent.
There are three scholars in the Library of the Sages. I have spoken to each of them already and they are ready for you.
Are you ready for them, [Player Name]?"

Accept[]

"Excellent.
First, speak with Gromoros. He is an experienced Abyss researcher and knows more about it than any Daeva in Sanctum. Answer his questions correctly and he'll hand you a diploma.
Gather three diplomas, then hand them to Fuchsia and the second test is complete. Enjoy your studies, [Player Name]."
X "Thank you."

Decline[]

"You must not be afraid, [Player Name].
You are testing in a friendly environment. Fail, and you will be helped back to your feet to try again.
Reconsider. You will not be permitted entry into the Abyss without taking this test."
X "I need to research more first."

Intermediate Dialogue[]

Gromoros - question 1
"Ah, good, I was waiting for you. It's [Player Name], isn't it? My name is Gromoros. The Abyss is an endlessly fascinating place. My only worry is that there is so much to learn and too little time in which to learn it.
Now, some questions.
First, do you know what created the Abyss?"
1 "The Tower of Eternity's destruction." (correct)
"Yes. Very good.
The Cataclysm literally shaped our world. The Balaur attacked and the Tower of Eternity collapsed. This shifted the flow of Aether considerably, which created a strange rift between the two towers.
It was only later that we named this rift the Abyss and found it had somehow suspended vast fragments of the destroyed tower. Onto the next question...."
1 "Okay." (to question 2)
2 "Er...a crack in the Aetheric Field?" (incorrect)
"No, that's not true. If you remember, Siel and Israphel lowered the Aetheric Field so that the Dragon Lords could enter the tower for the peace conference.
At the time of the Cataclysm, the Aetheric Field was not even active.
Try again, [Player Name]. How was the Abyss first created?"
1 "The Tower of Eternity's destruction." (choose again)
2 "Um...the...uh, Balaur!" (choose again)
3 "Um...the...uh, Balaur!" (incorrect)
"What? That makes no sense, [Player Name]. Why would the Balaur create the Abyss? It has served no purpose to them and has only kept them imprisoned since the Cataclysm.
No, try again. How was the Abyss first created?"
1 "The Tower of Eternity's destruction." (choose again)
2 "Er...a crack in the Aetheric Field?" (choose again)
Gromoros - question 2
"Here is the second question.
How does the Abyss pose a threat to Atreia?
Think on it carefully, [Player Name]. The answer to this question is the reason our Daevas lay their lives on the line every day in the Abyss."
1 "The towers break further down." (incorrect)
"What a strange answer!
It is true that the Abyss was created after the Tower of Eternity was destroyed, but its continuing presence has not adversely affected the towers since then.
Try again. The question is simple enough: how does the Abyss pose a threat to Atreia?"
1 "It drains Aetheric energy from Atreia." (choose again)
2 "Creatures in the Abyss flock to Atreia." (choose again)
2 "It drains Aetheric energy from Atreia." (correct)
"A textbook response! Our research shows that the Abyss drains Atreia of Aether. Soon our Daevas will find their powers diminished, then gone.
There is another worry though. Siel and Israphel bound Elysea and Asmodae together with Aetheric ties, and the Abyss weakens those ties each day. If they were to fail, Elysea would drift from Asmodae and our lives would all be extinguished.
You answered well, [Player Name]. Now for my last question."
1 "Sure." (to question 3)
3 "Creatures in the Abyss flock to Atreia." (incorrect)
"Think about it, [Player Class]. It has taken us many years to successfully enter the Abyss and navigate its twisting paths.
How would the creatures within the Abyss, who are rivalled[sic] in their strength only by their stupidity, enter into Atreia? Please, do tell. I am most curious!
Now, please consider each option before you answer. Tell me how the Abyss poses a threat to Atreia."
1 "The towers break further down." (choose again)
2 "It drains Aetheric energy from Atreia." (choose again)
Gromoros - question 3
"The Abyss is unstable and turbulent. For this test, I will give you three statements--you will tell me which is false.
One, many more Daeva are lost in the Abyss than anywhere else. Two, it is possible to reach Asmodae through the Abyss. Three, the atmosphere of the Abyss significantly weakens anyone who enters."
1 "The first statement is false." (incorrect)
"The first statement is true, actually. The Abyss is a swirling vortex complete with rolling storms, flying shards of rock--not to mention the Balaur and the Asmodians!
Try again, [Player Name]. You must consider each possibility before you answer. Which of these statements is false?
One, many more Daeva are lost in the Abyss than anywhere else. Two, it is possible to reach Asmodae through the Abyss. Three, the atmosphere of the Abyss significantly weakens anyone who enters."
1 "The second statement is false." (choose again)
2 "The third statement is false." (choose again)
2 "The second statement is false." (incorrect)
"You clearly haven't studied much of our history, [Player Name]. Remember Deltras who stepped through a portal and found himself on the broken world of Asmodae that fateful day?
Try again. Consider all the statements, and tell me which one is false.
One, many more Daeva are lost in the Abyss than anywhere else. Two, it is possible to reach Asmodae through the Abyss. Three, the atmosphere of the Abyss significantly weakens anyone who enters."
1 "The first statement is false." (choose again)
2 "The third statement is false." (choose again)
3 "The third statement is false." (correct)
"Excellent. I have heard many rumours swirling about concerning the Abyss--including that those who enter are weakened. This is simply not true.
Here is your diploma. You must now head to Nestor, the historian, and answer his questions to progress further.
You did well, [Player Name]. Faith and arms."
1 "Faith and arms." (to Nestor's test)
Nestor - question 1
"Aha! You must be the one Jucleas sent! I have been waiting for you!
I have spent my entire life researching the history of Atreia--I am now something of an expert on the matter.
Your first question is this: When was the Abyss created?"
1 "During the Millennium War." (incorrect)
"What? No.
The Tower of Eternity--pieces of which now form huge parts of the Abyss--still existed during the Millennium War.
Try again, [Player Name]. When was the Abyss created?"
1 "During the Cataclysm." (choose again)
2 "During the first war with Asmodae." (choose again)
2 "During the Cataclysm." (correct)
"Correct, my young apprentice!
The Abyss is a floating void, a series of shattered remains suspended between Elysea and Asmodae! The remains are actually shards of the Tower of Eternity that never fell to the ground after the Cataclysm.
Now, question number two approaches! Prepare yourself!"
1 "I'm ready." (to question 2)
3 "During the first war with Asmodae." (incorrect)
"No. I'm sorry, [Player Name], that's not correct.
That first fight with the Asmodians took place within the Abyss, in fact.
Try again. When was the Abyss created?"
1 "During the Millennium War." (choose again)
2 "During the Cataclysm." (choose again)
Nestor - question 2
"We shall see, [Player Name]! I'll present you now with a trickier question.
Where was our first permanent gateway to the Abyss constructed?
Please, you must think back to the history of our world. Picture our people, picture this first portal...then tell me where it is."
1 "I believe the answer is Poeta." (incorrect)
"You, who were chosen for ascension in Poeta, should know there is no permanent portal in Poeta!
Ah, perhaps you mistook that crude Dukaki contraption you discovered for a portal. It was not.
Try again. Where was our first permanent gateway to the Abyss built?"
1 "Was it not in Verteron?" (choose again)
2 "It was discovered in Eltnen." (choose again)
2 "Was it not in Verteron?" (correct)
"It was indeed, [Player Name]!
Yes, it was on the once serene lands of Verteron that the first permanent gateway to the Abyss was built. Once the construction was successful, we established a small base there--you know it as Verteron Citadel.
Now for your final question."
1 "I'll do my best, Nestor." (to question 3)
3 "It was discovered in Eltnen." (incorrect)
"The Abyss gateway within Eltnen was finished a long time ago, true enough, but it was not the first.
Try again. Where was our first permanent gateway to the Abyss constructed?"
1 "I believe the answer is Poeta." (choose again)
2 "Was it not in Verteron?" (choose again)
Nestor - question 3
"Your best may not be good enough, [Player Name]. The final question is on a part of Elyos history which is little more than an ugly scar.
On one of the earliest journeys into the Abyss, one particular Legion stepped through a portal and stood on Asmodae. When that party eventually returned, many had been murdered, and many seriously wounded.
Tell me which legion it was that befell such a cruel fate."
1 "The Storm Legion, led by Deltras." (correct)
"You know it well, my young apprentice! The story of The Storm Legion is a great tragedy, but even now steels us against those cursed Asmodians.
Here is your diploma. I believe you are to speak with Xenophon next. He is something of a tactical genius, so you must have your wits about you.
Go, [Player Name], and take my blessings with you!"
1 "Thank you." (to Xenophon's test)
2 "The Silver Legion, led by Boreas." (incorrect)
"No, but you were close! Boreas and the Silver Legion led several early expeditions into the Abyss and taught us a great deal of information.
They were not the first to step onto Asmodae, though--no, that was another Legion.
Do you know which one?"
1 "The Storm Legion, led by Deltras." (choose again)
2 "The Temple, led by Lord Nezekan." (choose again)
3 "The Temple, led by Lord Nezekan." (incorrect)
"Lord Nezekan did indeed lead a Legion named The Temple into the Abyss, but only after this other group had been annihilated on the haunted lands of Asmodae.
The Temple met another group within the Abyss, an Asmodian legion led by one of their own Shedim Lords, Lady Triniel. The battle was one of the longest and most ferocious that we have ever known.
Try again. What was the name of the Elyos Legion that first stepped into Asmodae?"
1 "The Storm Legion, led by Deltras." (choose again)
2 "The Silver Legion, led by Boreas." (choose again)
Xenophon - question 1
"Welcome to this section of your Abyss test, [Player Name]. I'll be finding out what you know about military operations.
Listen closely. The fortresses are the most important strategic points within Abyss battlefields. Knowing how to successfully occupy a fortress is vital.
Explain to me how it's done."
1 "The castle gates must be destroyed." (incorrect)
"Incorrect.
While it's true that the castle gates must be destroyed to gain entry, it's only the first step.
Answer me again, [User Class]. What must one ultimately do to successfully occupy a fortress?"
1 "The Aetheric Field Generator must be destroyed."(choose again)
2 "The Guardian General must be destroyed." (choose again)
2 "The Aetheric Field Generator must be destroyed." (incorrect)
"No, no.
It is certainly easier to hold a fortress once the Aetheric Field Generator has been destroyed, but they do not ultimately hold power within the great structure.
I'll ask again, [Player Name]. How can one ultimately control a fortress?

1 "The castle gates must be destroyed." (choose again)
2 "The Guardian General must be destroyed" (choose again)
3 "The Guardian General must be destroyed." (correct)
"Very good.
The Guardian Generals are incredibly powerful warriors. Versed in combat since birth, their strength and resilience necessitates a well coordinated attack.
However, defeat them and win the fortress. Such a prize transcends material wealth, and is crucial to our overall war effort. Time for the next question."
1 "Okay." (to question 2)
Xenophon - question 2
"Artifacts. They are incredibly useful in battle and can help turn the tide in a second. Learning how to control them is vital.
I'll list three facts. You'll tell me which is false.
One, Artifacts were once part of the mechanics of the Tower of Eternity. Two, you can only control an Artifact after defeating its protector. Three, occupying a fortress automatically gives you control over nearby Artifacts."
1 "The first statement is false." (incorrect)
"I'm afraid not--Artifacts were originally part of the Tower of Eternity. Their purpose is unknown, but they are intricate and mysterious objects.
Try again. Which of these statements is false?
One, Artifacts were once part of the mechanics of the Tower of Eternity. Two, you can only control an Artifact after defeating its protector. Three, occupying a fortress automatically gives you control over nearby Artifacts."
1 "The second statement is false." (choose again)
2 "The third statement is false." (choose again)
2 "The second statement is false." (incorrect)
"No, that's actually true. In order to control an Artifact, the Artifact Protector must first be defeated.
Try again. Which statement is false?
One, Artifacts were once part of the mechanics of the Tower of Eternity. Two, you can only control an Artifact after defeating its protector. Three, occupying a fortress automatically gives you control over nearby Artifacts."
1 "The first statement is false." (choose again)
2 "The third statement is false." (choose again)
3 "The third statement is false."(correct)
"Correct!
While Artifacts are situated near to fortresses, capturing the latter gives its occupiers no sway over the Artifacts themselves. Each Artifact has a guardian which must be bested before control can be claimed.
Now, the last question."
1 "Ready when you are." (to questions 3)
Xenophon - question 3
"This last question concerns flight in the Abyss. Here are another three statements. Tell me which one is false.
One, you can fly anywhere within the Abyss. Two, flying into an Aetheric Field--usually surrounding a fortress--will harm you. Three, the weakened atmosphere and gravity allows a Daeva to fly as long as they wish without tiring."
1 "The first statement is false." (incorrect)
"No, that statement is actually true. Because of the Aether, a Daeva can fly anywhere in the Abyss.
Try again. Which statement is false?
One, you can fly anywhere within the Abyss. Two, flying into an Aetheric Field--usually surrounding a fortress--will harm you. Three, the weakened atmosphere and gravity allows a Daeva to fly as long as they wish without tiring."
1 "The second statement is false." (choose again)
2 "The third statement is false." (choose again)
2 "The second statement is false." (incorrect)
"I'm afraid that statement is correct. The Aetheric Fields surrounding the fortresses do indeed harm those that fly into them, in extreme cases causing instant death.
Now, try again. Which statement is untrue?
One, you can fly anywhere within the Abyss. Two, flying into an Aetheric Field--usually surrounding a fortress--will harm you. Three, the weakened atmosphere and gravity allows a Daeva to fly as long as they wish without tiring."
1 "The first statement is false." (choose again)
2 "The third statement is false." (choose again)
3 "The third statement is false." (correct)
"Well done! Unlimited flight within the Abyss is a myth which has somehow permeated public awareness. The reality is that our Daeva are limited by their stamina there just as they are in Elysea.
The only difference is that the Aether makes it so that ones wings can spread anywhere.
Congratulations! You have passed my test. Here is your diploma. Your only task now is to take it to Fuchsia, along with the other two you've received. You did splendidly."
1 "Thank you!"
Fuchsia
"Infinite time, and yet you progress with such speed, [Player Name]. I must wonder if I should be alarmed or heartened by your progress."
1 "Be heartened! Here are my diplomas."
"Gromoros, Nestor, and Xenophon himself! It seems your abilities go beyond strength and agility. I am pleasantly surprised.
Congratulations! You have passed the second stage of the Abyss entry examination!"
