Cradle of Eternity (CoE), also called Garden of Knowledge, is a group instance for players of level 66 and above. Introduced in 5.1, it is accessible from the Reflection of Eternity pillar within the Tower of Eternity and the Archive of All Knowledge in the Archives of Eternity once the final boss has been defeated. This mysterious ancient sanctuary holds primordial knowledge, bit has been corrupted by a shadowy presence.

This is the second instance of the three-part grouping, which begins in the Archives of Eternity.

Backstory

As the excursion into the Archives of Eternity was a success, a mysterious portal to the unknown opened up in the main chamber of the library. <Agent ViolaViola> (E)/<Agent PeregrinePeregrine> (A) sent an expedition squad to discover the secrets held by this new space. However, this proved to be impossible, as soldiers sent here were forced to retreat.

As the hero is asked to aid the guards in the intrusion, powerful enemies are found inside, but valuable allies are also met. The former tenders of the garden revealed how the deepest sections of the sanctuary holds an colossal ancient tree, which is believed to hold the records from the creation. Through the years however, a corruption has slowly worked its way across the garden, taking over it. The origin of this; a being called <Typhon>, a devious and deadly snake, which even managed to pollute the mind of the former protectors of the gardens.

Access

In order to be allowed inside the instance, the player must have completed all campaign quests inside the Archives of Eternity, including the final one. Doing so will allow the user to go inside the instance and continue the questline (this time, in the Cradle of Eternity).

The group will zone in to the Advance Unit Refuge, a small platform within the first garden. Quest NPCs can be found here, as well as a Teleporting Stone Device as new sections of the map are opened. Depending on how much the group progresses through, they may teleport back to their last save point through this device without needing to walk all the way through (this device can only be used within the same run, as when the instance resets, so will this device).

The first garden is composed of several circular floating platforms connected through bridges. In order to access the second garden, the group must defeat the first boss; the <Insightful Eye>, however in order to do that they must first access the Conqueror's Sanctuary, a separate chamber only unsealed when the <Fallen Jotun Warrior> found guarding frontal door to the chamber.

The first garden still keeps secrets however. One of them are the five <Covetous Fallen Guardians> around it. whenever one of them is killed, they will drop a single Earthen Malachite <Earthen Malachite>, which later on is used to unlock additional loot for the group. The first <Covetous Fallen Guardian> can be found in the Serene Plaza, as one of the first monsters killed when the group begins the run. The second one is located next to the main entrance to the Conqueror's Sanctuary, in a corner between it and the east entrance bridge. The third one is located on the annex platform connected to the 2nd Defense Line. the fourth one can be found patrolling around the Path of Truth, northwest to the Conqueror's Sanctuary. While the final one will be found in the Divine Waterfall (only accessible once the <Insightful Eye> has been defeated).

Another special room is the Hollow Temple. This platform can only be accessed from the staircase leading from the Conqueror's Sanctuary, however, it will be blocked off by the <Altar of Emptiness>. This device can only be triggered and removed once a copy of the Completed Records of Life <Completed Records of Life> is used. This book is only obtained from assembling the five chapters looted from books spread across the Archives of Eternity. Once it is unlocked, the group may access the <Dimly Glowing Box>, looting from it pieces of the Library Guardian's appearance set or Archdaeva manastones. The book will however be consumed upon use.

They group may alternatively opt to ignore these and head straight to the <Insightful Eye>. By going to the Conqueror's Sanctuary and interacting with the door they may access the chamber, starting the encounter immediately.

During the encounter, the boss will make use of a variety of attacks, most related to movement. They include; Threatening Strike <Threatening Strike> (dealing damage on a target and others around the primary target), Breathtaking Look <Breathtaking Look> (dealing damage in a straight line), Explosive Bolt <Explosive Bolt> (reducing movement speed of a target and the ones around it), Severe Turbulence <Severe Turbulence> (a cone-shaped AoE), Nervesnap Wave <Nervesnap Wave> (reducing movement speed of nearby targets) and Lightning Strike <Lightning Strike> (paralysing a target).

However, its most dangerous feature is spawning four <Magic Towers>, each on one corner of the platform. There are three waves of these, and will take place depending on the HP of the boss; at around 75%, 50% and 20%. While the <Magic Towers> are present, the <Insightful Eye> will receive a shield, making it invulnerable to damage. Due to how hard these secondary mobs hit, it is best for each DPS class to tackle one, and pop defensive buffs if needed. Additionally, from time to time, Typhon's Pollutant <Typhon's Pollutant> will go off, lighting up certain tiles on the platform, which after a few seconds will explode, dealing damage on people standing on them. This can be countered by moving to the tiles which do not light up.

Having defeated the <Insightful Eye>, the group may loot its body for gear upgrade materials and pieces of basic gear. The way out of the Conqueror's Sanctuary will be unlocked, freeing up the <Earth Jotun>. Using the door behind him, the group will be teleported to the access point to the second garden.

As the party pushes to the Walking Path, they will come across the small altar in the Divine Watetfall. Interacting with each slot while being in possession of a Earthen Malachite <Earthen Malachite> will trigger it, and once all five slots are occupied, a secret door behind the waterfall will open, revealing the <Magically Sealed Box>. Once opened, the group will have a chance to receive a piece of the Library Guardian's appearance set or bundles containing Archdaeva manastones. Going up the side stairs, the first save point will be activated. Groups will be able to automatically teleport from the Advance Unit Refuge to this point from now on.

The party will then be able to proceed to the Sylfaen Garden Entrance (the second garden), where they will meet the <Earth Jotun> again, this time, fighting the <Fighting Sun Jotun>. Interacting with the <Earth Jotun> will allow the group to aid him against his corrupted comrade.

Like the first garden, this one will also feature optional routes. The Alb Garden can be tackled in two different ways. From the Sylfaen Garden Entrance, they may skip it entirely and instead voard the windstream leading to the Library Gap, connecting to the Corrupt Library, by taking down a barrier and wiping off a few garden guards. Alternatively, they may head straight towards the Sealed Light, holding the <>, the <Sylfae Queen>imprisoned in a sphere. Interacting with this sphere will free her, transforming the player into her.

During this state, the player will get their movement speed drastically reduced, and will only be able to use three skills; Royal Gaze <Royal Gaze>, Royal Rebuke <Royal Rebuke> (puts enemy targets to sleep) and Dignified Retreat <Dignified Retreat> (instantly teleports 10m forward). The objective is to transport the player in the shape of the <Sylfae Queen> to the Garden Temple and allow him to interact with the <Sleeping Sylfae Queen> in the ground, which will spawn the <Sylfaen Treasure Chest> and the <Sylfae Queen> herself.

However, there will be obstacles in the path. Normally, the way would be full of <Sylfae> and <Gryphios>, all passive monsters with the Beguiling Visions <Beguiling Visions> buff, which makes them immune to any attack. While in the shape of the <Sylfae Queen>, they will all be aggressive to that player. Their buff can be removed by using Royal Gaze <Royal Gaze> on them, which will allow the rest of the group to kill them. The fairy state will be automatically removed if the player leaves the garden.

Upon reaching the Garden Temple and having freed the <Sylfae Queen>, the blocked bath will open up leading up to the Tainted Library, the following section of the instance, and a new Teleport Stone safe point will be enabled. The party must jump down and toggle flight or glide. Those groups who opted to skip the Alb Garden and instead went for the windstream route, will end up in the Library Gap in the Corrupt Library, one room ahead.

The contaminated libraries are full flight areas, and the bottom of the floor is covered in a vile substance which will deal damage on those who stand on it. From here the group may optionally head to Vid's Secret Library and fight the second boss, the <Fallen Sea Jotun>, or skip it and head to the Vile Library and continue with the rest of the instance.

Across the libraries, players may find the <Box with Sun Seal> on top of one of the galleries or platforms next to the doors connecting the chambers, dropping a Sun Quartz <Sun Quartz>, used much later into the instance for additional loot.

The group may skip into the second main boss of the instance; <Fallen Sea Jotun> in Vid's Secret Library, accessed from the Corrupt Library. The fight will begin as soon as the group zones in. Through the first stage, the boss will use Force of Waves <Force of Waves> (a small AoE which will inflict damage), Tsunami <Tsunami> (a frontal fan shaped AoE which will reduce movement speed), Detaining Sphere <Detaining Sphere> (all-room-wide Aether's Hold state) and Concussive Wave <Concussive Wave> (an AoE stun). Soon after starting, the boss will use Rage Quake <Rage Quake> (the boss will choose a random target and inflict damage on it), however, this skill will also cause the section of the platform to be marked with a circle. Any target that stands on it will receive damage from the rockfall effect.

After 75%, the boss will stop using most all skills except for Rage Quake <Rage Quake>, which will continue to summon circles. In addition to this, the boss will make use of Cyclone <Cyclone>, a single target attack. However, every few moments, the boss will summon <Jotun Grunts>, additional monsters which will use Solid Strike <Solid Strike> (a single target attack) and Cursed Wave <Cursed Wave> (putting a target into a silenced and bound state). These adds will make the battle considerably more chaotic as more of them spawn. Those support classes or those which use AoEs attacks will be the most likely ones to be focused by them. The only way to counter them is to kite them around due to how extremely resilient they are. They are also damaged by the rockfall effect from the circles, however the damage is too low for them. The best way is to deal the most damage possible on the boss until 50% of HP. If most of the group dies, all adds will despawn but will soon resume to spawn again, as long as the boss does not reset.

At 50%, the battle will become considerably easier. Instead of using the rockfall circles, the boss will instead make use of Steaming Geyser <Steaming Geyser>, which will summon circles on the ground which will inflict damage on those which stand on them (higher than the rockfall circles). <Jotun Grunts> are killed a lot faster from these, which will make it easier to handle them. However, the group must watch out for them too as it is easy to get cornered by them. After 25%, the boss will resume casting Tsunami <Tsunami> and Force of Waves <Force of Waves>. Once the boss is killed, the group. ay loot its corpse for valuables.

There is a secret mechanic related to the <Fallen Sea Jotun>. Killing the three <Furious Jotun Warriors> located in the instance will trigger the <Manager's Treasure Chest> to spawn in the boss' chamber, sharing the loot with the <Fallen Sea Jotun>. Two <Furious Jotun Warriors> are located in the gazebos in the Alb Garden, the other one will be in the Tainted Library, at the bottom in the middle of the room on the platform.

Leaving Vid's Secret Library will teleport players in the Storm Cliff, a small side corridor annex to the main libraries. From here the group may choose to either follow the path to reach the windstream leading to the next section of the instance, or jump back into the Corrupt Library.

Moving into the Vile Library, most of this hall can only be traversed through through flight, as the swamped contamination on the lower levels will deal damage to players that plunge in them. However, the contamination can be removed by interacting with the <Heavy Door Lever> on the floating platforms. After all are triggered, the lower floor will be accessible. On it, the group may find several <Strange Box>es. Some will be mimics, instantly attacking players, others will drop either a Cradle of Eternity Enchant Supplement Bundle <Cradle of Eternity Enchant Supplement Bundle> or a Cradle of Eternity Illusion Godstone Bundle Cradle of Eternity Illusion Godstone Bundle.

Players may leave the Vile Library by destroying the <Locked Door to the Vile Library>, opening the door leading to the Storm Cliff. The group must mount the windstream to access the final section of the instance; the Core of Knowledge.

When the Central Entrance is accessed, players will find another teleport stone which will be activated. Quest NPCs are also located here. Ahead, Elyos and Asmodian guards will be fighting each other and can be safely ignored in order to proceed forward to the Memorial Path. Purple smoke clouds will begin to follow players around. They cannot be avoided or warded off, and whenever they reach a target which is hostile to the party, the target will receive the Typhon's Dominating Gaze <Typhon's Dominating Gaze>, making them slightly more resilient to attacks.

The path will branch into two. Entering to the narrow collapsed wall will lead to the Mysterious Waterfall. This chamber will hold the Altar of Sun. If the group is in possession of a Sun Quartz <Sun Quartz>, the player may interact with it and will trigger the mechanism to open a passage leading to the other side of the waterfall, revealing a new chamber holding a <Magically Sealed Box>. When opened, it will reward a Stigma Sack <Stigma Sack> or a Cradle of Eternity Enchant Supplement Bundle <Cradle of Eternity Enchant Supplement Bundle>.

The Mysterious Waterfall chamber will also hold a Kisk of the opposing faction. This object can be dangerous, as destroying it will cause waves of guards to spawn, and an undergeared group will not be able to ward them off. To return to the main path, players may interact with the <Bridge Activation Device>, lowering the bridge back to the Memorial Path.

Moving to the Advance Unit Assembly Area, the group will meet <Agent ViolaViola> (E)/<Agent PeregrinePeregrine> (A) again, preparing for the final battle in the instance against the source of all corruption; <Typhon>. Making use of the teleporter, players will be transported to the Spring of Knowledge, giving a start to the boss encounter immediately.

The fight is composed of three phases. During the first ones, all group members will receive the Grounded <Grounded> debuff, disabling them from flying. It is important to note that if the whole group gets killed, the fight will restart all the way back to the beginning.

The first phase is composed of <Fiery Typhon>, with fire-damage attacks, and <Vile Typhon>, with poison-based attacks. The objective is to defeat both of them within a 10 seconds window. If the attempt fails, the fight will start over, and the defeated snake will rise back up with full health. The strategy is to assign half of the group to focus on one snake, while the other half deals with the other, due to Eternal Bounty <Eternal Bounty> (a healing buff which will be active on both snakes through the whole fight).

<Fiery Typhon>'s normal skills include Powerful Strike <Powerful Strike> (a single target attack) and Breath of Annihilation <Breath of Annihilation> (inflicting damage on targets within a line), while <Vile Typhon>'s will be Acrid Poison <Acrid Poison> (single target) and Diseased Mists <Diseased Mists> (line attack). Their most crucial skills are however; <Fiery Typhon>'s red circles summoned by Fire of Calamity <Fire of Calamity> (casting this skill on a target, the section he is standing on will be covered by a red circle, inflicting damage on whoever stands on them) and Inferno Fiend <Inferno Fiend> (summoning Exploding Zygotes which will explode inflicting tons of damage). This last one can only be countered by killing them before they blow up, and as such it is best to bring DPS classes with reliable AoEs. As for <Vile Typhon>, it will use Strange Poison Barb <Strange Poison Barb> (a delayed effect attack, spawning a green circle around them, showing that any other person standing on it when the effect goes off will also receive the damage), Potent Poison <Potent Poison> (a debuff which will inflict ongoing damage on the affected targets for hours and cannot be removed) and Venomous Stream <Venomous Stream> (a single target attack).

Part of the difficulty from this fight comes with these skills. However, they can be countered by certain skills used by the opposite snake. For instance, the red circles from Fire of Calamity <Fire of Calamity> will remain and if not dealt with appropriately, they will slowly cover the whole platform. As such, the red circles can be vanished by making <Vile Typhon>'s target stand on them when it uses Venomous Stream <Venomous Stream>. The poison effect from Potent Poison <Potent Poison> can only be removed by standing on the circles spawned from Fire of Calamity <Fire of Calamity>.

The placement of the Fire of Calamity <Fire of Calamity> circles is crucial. The player tanking <Fiery Typhon> must keep in mind that where he stands when the cast finishes (with a one second delay) is where the centre of the circle will be. During the first phase, he should try to place them between both bosses (without disturbing the player tanking <Vile Typhon>) or a bit more to the back left, stacking them up to two on top of each other.

With both snakes defeated at the same time, the second phase begins. While mostly similar to the first one, in this one the group will not only face <Fiery Typhon> and <Vile Typhon>, but <Typhon> himself as well. The objective is to get passed <Typhon>'s protective shield (Unbreakable Defense <Unbreakable Defense>) and weaken him. This can only be done by taking down <Fiery Typhon> and <Vile Typhon> again at the same time, giving the group the chance to take down his HP. This window is limited, however players will only need to reach around 10% of his bar. Provided the group fails to make it on time, <Typhon> will call back the other snakes, giving him the shield again. While they may need to bring <Fiery Typhon> and <Vile Typhon> down once more, <Typhon> will not recover any HP, therefore allowing the group to resume DPS on him where they left off as long as they take down the shield.

Like the first phase, both snakes will use their old skills. <Fiery Typhon> will keep using Inferno Fiend <Inferno Fiend>, however no Explosive Zygotes will spawn. During this phase, the <Earth Jotun> will also be present, aiding the group against <Typhon>. The added difficulty comes from <Typhon>, who will mostly auto attack through most of the encounter, except for when he casts Mind Trap <Mind Trap>, an irremovable fear state which will last for 15 seconds, affecting all targets. This can only be countered by standing on the blue circle spawned by the <Earth Jotun>, which will completely prevent the effects of Mind Trap <Mind Trap>. The group may be alerted by the incoming use of the fear by searching for the said circle, as it will only appear when the attack is being casted.

On top of that, from time to time, <Typhon> will call forth <Jotun Combatants> one by one. If they are aggroed by a group member, they must be disposed of, as they will be a potential threat to the group. As for placement of the circles spawned by Fire of Calamity <Fire of Calamity>, for additional safety, the group may consider placung them near the blue circle spawned by the <Earth Jotun>, to ensure the person targeted by Venomous Stream <Venomous Stream> makes it in time.

If the group mamages to overcome the challenges, <Typhon> will collapse for some seconds as the skill Suppress <Suppress> is being casted, leaving him vulnerable to attacks. When he rises back up, the third phase begins. This last one is however considerably easier than the previous ones.

<Typhon> will rise back up with full health. This time, he will immediately cast Last Breath <Last Breath>, releasing clouds of smoke which will cover the platform, inflicting damage on anyone who stands on it. The Grounded <Grounded> debuff will be lifted, allowing the players to fly. The group must fight <Typhon> while in the air. This phase is mostly easy, as <Typhon> will stick to using Last Breath <Last Breath> (a frontal AoE) and Strange Poison Barb <Strange Poison Barb>.

Once <Typhon> is defeated, the fight will finally end, allowing players to loot his corpse for loot. The exit and <Agent ViolaViola> (E)/<Agent PeregrinePeregrine> (A) will appear.

Quests

Once the campaign versions of the quest are completed, the repeatable version will be unlocked. The standard version is automatically acquired inside the instance as the player steps in to the appropriate section. All quests within this instance can be turned in through the Bounty feature.

Gear Upgrading

Bosses and special crates will drop basic gear, without manastone slots and subpar stats. However, these can be traded in, along with additional materials, for improved versions. There are four sets available, each with slight variations, each requiring different items. Nonetheless, all upgrades will ask for only two types of stones.

Additionally, each set will boost damage differently against monsters with Warrior, Mages, Assassin and Special types. These types are only present in mobs from Norsvold, Iluma and level 66+ instances.

Each of the four magic stone hearts must be assembled out of a tome (dropped from mobs inside the instance and related quests) and Starlight Particle Dust (dropped from bosses mainly).
